Capenergies signs a cooperation agreement with the Basque Energy cluster
In line with its internationalisation strategy, the Capenergies cluster signed a cooperation agreement with the Basque Energy cluster, a leading European player in smart power grids. Already partners under the European programme called Smart Specialisation Strategy (S3) for smart grid development (energy thematic platform), clusters working on similar themes are currently strengthening their ties to expand their portfolio of services and to generate new technical and business opportunities for their members.
Basque Energy cluster – a reference partner in Europe
Energy is a key economic sector in the Basque Country where the government is committed to low-carbon growth and is heavily involved in numerous European programmes, including Horizon 2020.
The Basque Energy cluster is leading the project called Smart Grids Basque Country which promotes smart grid solutions developed by Basque companies in the international arena.
Boasting 160 partners, the Basque Energy cluster includes key energy players in the region (Tecnalia R&I, Gamesa, Gas Natural Fenosa, GE Power Management, Siemens, Endesa, Indra, Ingeteam, Ormazabai, Iberdrola Distribution): energy operators, equipment suppliers, service providers and representatives from scientific and technical sectors. Like Capenergies, the cluster is committed to improving the competitiveness of companies in 9 strategic fields: smart grids, energy storage, electric vehicles, wind power, solar power, concentrated solar power (CSP), photovoltaics, energy efficiency, wave power, oil and gas.
A partnership focused on smart power grids
Capenergies and the Basque Energy cluster have confirmed their intention to build sustainable relations to drive the development of smart power grids on a local, national and European scale by:
- Being involved in the energy strategies of each territory
- Providing joint responses to European calls for projects
- Contributing to the commercial deployment of smart grid solutions on the European market
- Organising ‘smart grid’ trade actions to improve the entry of companies into national and international markets.
Following the signing of the first agreement with the Moroccan Solar cluster in 2018, this new collaboration with the Basque Energy cluster for smart grids further enhances the international and inter-cluster relations for Capenergies members.
