ATMOSPHERIC CO2 LEVELS IN PROVENCE: CHECKING DATA ON FOSSIL FUEL EMISSIONS AND NATURAL CO2 SINKS IN THE AIX-MARSEILLE-PROVENCE METROPOLIS AREA
According to current inventories, the Provence region represents about 11% of France’s total CO2 emissions. This kind of information sometimes needs to be verified by an independent body, hence the CO2-SUD research project. AMM sets out to improve the assessment of CO2 levels in the Aix-Marseille-Provence metropolis area considering it is a highly urbanised and industrial environment.
The project intends to characterise and quantify:
➥ Variations in atmospheric CO2 levels on different time scales and across the region, from the Haute-Provence observatory to the city streets of Marseille
➥ The proportion of anthropogenic CO2 emissions and emissions from natural ecosystems.
The results of this research will be used to check the CO2 inventory established by ATMOSUD, thereby helping politicians and environmental decision-makers take the most appropriate actions to reduce CO2 emissions in the region.
