MATHEMATICAL STUDY OF THE VLASOV-POISSON SYSTEM WITH A STRONG MAGNETIC FIELD

The purpose of this project is to develop mathematical simulation tools to design and interpret tests on plasma fusion in tokamaks using magnetic confinement.

The project is modelling plasma in magnetic-confinement fusion machines in 3D using a simplified approach based on two-time-scale homogenisation; the faster scale is cyclotron resonance, while the other is the observation time scale used to take into account collision effects. It also sets out to validate this simplified modelling approach by comparing the results with numerical simulations without homogenisation.
