FALSTAFF

ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING OF LOW-LOSS MAGNETIC ALLOYS BY 3D LAMINATION

Exploiting the latest additive manufacturing technologies, the FALSTAFF project is developing solid ferromagnetic alloy (Fe-6,5Si and Fe-49Co-2%V) elements in the form of 3D laminated structures. Both thin and insulating, these 3D structures help reduce losses inside the material; they are expected to find applications in the high-frequency market (iron losses <25 W/kg at 400 Hz under 1 T) as they can provide geometries impossible to achieve with sheet metal.
