INDUSTRIAL-SCALE MANUFACTURING OF BIO-BASED INSULATION
The ISOWAT project intends to develop a local industrial-scale unit to manufacture bio-based cellulose insulation using recycled paper and cardboard from selective sorting. This insulation will be sold on the building thermal insulation market.
The project targets key environmental issues by aiming to reduce CO2 emissions over the entire life cycle of the insulating material, to reduce grey energy consumption levels by a factor of four, and to implement a process that needs no water.
By meeting the local demand in insulation, this project is also helping to rebuild the industrial sector in the region. The first unit in the Bouches-du-Rhône department will be designed to turn 8000 tonnes/ year of waste into about 600,000 m2 of insulating material.
