SMART PORT SOLUTIONS AND DOCK-SIDE ELECTRICAL POWER SUPPLIES FOR SHIPS
Improving the air quality around the Toulon port – located right in the town centre – is a public health issue for the Toulon metropolis as many ferries to and from Corsica dock her.
The ‘Onshore Power Supply Toulon’ project intends to reduce almost 80% of the polluting emissions in the port by:
➥ Installing 3 high-power units (up to 2.5 MW) for shore power connection, which will be partially powered by renewables. These units are expected to be operational in early 2022
➥ Equipping the Corsica Ferries fleet with electrical connector systems, i.e. 4 ships in the beginning, which tend to have long stopover times.
With the goal of making all of the Toulon quays 100% electric-powered by 2023, this project is one of the flagship actions of the ‘Zero emission at berth’ plan supported by the South region.
