SMART PORT SOLUTIONS AND DOCK-SIDE ELECTRICAL POWER SUPPLIES FOR SHIPS

Improving the air quality around the Toulon port – located right in the town centre – is a public health issue for the Toulon metropolis as many ferries to and from Corsica dock her.

The ‘Onshore Power Supply Toulon’ project intends to reduce almost 80% of the polluting emissions in the port by:

Installing 3 high-power units (up to 2.5 MW) for shore power connection, which will be partially powered by renewables. These units are expected to be operational in early 2022
Equipping the Corsica Ferries fleet with electrical connector systems, i.e. 4 ships in the beginning, which tend to have long stopover times.

With the goal of making all of the Toulon quays 100% electric-powered by 2023, this project is one of the flagship actions of the ‘Zero emission at berth’ plan supported by the South region.
