5 projects awarded the i-Nov label in 2020

Among the 29 projects accredited by Capenergies in 2020, 5 companies are winners of waves 5 and 6 of the selective process i-Nov competition BE ENERGY, FLODIM, INOVADEA, PLENESYS and WATT&WELL. This recognition and decisive funding should enable them to make their development a reality.

The i-Nov Competition is a support scheme financed by the Programme d'investissements d'avenir (PIA) aimed at supporting innovative projects by start-ups and SMEs, in order to accelerate the development of these companies, which have particularly strong potential for the French economy and can aspire to international stature.

These 5 companies have benefited from the support of Capenergies, which helps several companies each year to access this major innovation funding window. Through the labelling process, the cluster's team helps to structure and consolidate projects, and applicants benefit from expert advice on how to perform when applying.

The I-Nov innovation competition in brief :

  • EXPECTED PROJECTS : research, development and innovation projects with a total cost of between €600,000 and €5 million and a duration of between 12 and 36 months
  • HOLDERS : single-partner, SME / Startup
  • AIDES : up to 45 % of the cost of the project in the form of grants and repayable advances

The 7th wave is open until 11 May 2021

The I-Nov Competition: funding that accelerates company growth!

Ahmed KACEM, COO and co-founder of PLENESYS

"This will enable us to recruit staff and purchase equipment to unlock certain key stages of the technology with a view to bringing our 1er a demonstrator for the production of carbon-free hydrogen using a plasma process, with a total capacity of 50 tonnes/year.

The Capenergies cluster's accreditation enabled us to prepare effectively, take a step back and refine certain aspects of our application. It's a recognised factor in the selection of winning projects in the i-Nov competition.

Benoît SCHMITT, CEO and founder WATT & WELL

"The funding from the I-Nov competition will enable us to accelerate our development in a fast-growing market where innovations are spreading very quickly. The amount of funding (over €2m) is commensurate with the R&D challenges we face. Our aim is to become the European leader in the design and manufacture of power modules for charging electric vehicles.

Presenting our project to the Capenergies cluster's panel of experts was an important step: the accreditation gave our application more credibility with funders.

"Winning the I-Nov competition is recognition of the intelligence of our solution from ADEME, a leading body on energy issues in France.

It's also a key source of funding, because the budgets provided will enable us to develop our products and move towards industrialisation.

We're delighted to have worked with Capenergies and embarked on the certification process, which has given us a new lease of life.

"The battery regeneration market is a race that needs to be run at a sustained pace, given the runaway success of the battery market. The I-Nov competition will enable us to get ahead of the game and maintain our leadership in this niche market.

Among other things, the oral pitch for the label enables us to do a warm-up round and hone our presentation for the I-Nov competition oral.

Jean-Paul CRABEIL, General Manager FLODIM
Jean-Paul CRABEILGeneral Manager FLODIM

"FLODIM is delighted to have won the I-Nov 6 competition for its HY-WISE project, in which it has invested heavily in defining a new method and instruments for developing salt cavities more quickly, more cheaply and more environmentally friendly. ADEME funding represents 50% of our R&D and manufacturing costs. This is crucial financial support for the launch of the biggest technological project ever undertaken by FLODIM.

The label was necessary for ADEME to recognise the interest of the project and for us to have credibility. The Capenergies cluster has been particularly attentive to our needs during the appraisal and committee stages.
