GARDEN project
Decarbonizing agri-food hubs in the Mediterranean region
objectives
The project GARDEN which follows on from the cluster's work on the EnernETMob project, aims to decarbonize last-mile food logistics and the management of waste, packaging and used containers in Mediterranean cities in 5 European Union countries.
The challenges of the project are to establish sustainable economic models for the supply chain, and to create bi-directional logistics circuits with a low carbon footprint through solutions based on renewable energies and biofuels.
Six demonstrators will be set up in pilot cities such as Senigallia (Italy), Heraklion (Greece), Dolni Chiflik (Bulgaria), Ribera (Spain), Marseille and Montpellier (France) to study and experiment with various solutions and demonstrate their effectiveness.
The partners will carry out long-term economic and technical studies using a multi-stakeholder Living Lab approach, to identify ways of securing and making viable the supply chain from production to end consumer.
The results of these experiments will then be used to formulate recommendations for decision-makers with a view to transforming cities and meeting the challenges of tomorrow.
