Capenergies and the MIN of the Aix-Marseille metropolitan area join forces for an unprecedented experiment in electromobility for urban logistics

15 September 2020 - As the first market of national interest in the south of France, the Marseille Méditerranée Market is hosting an experiment conducted jointly with Capenergies, which aims to facilitate and encourage electric mobility for last-mile deliveries, while also contributing to short circuits for agri-food products.

The system, comprising a solar shade, an intelligent charging point with 2 recharging ports and an energy storage system, is co-financed by the Interreg Med Programme, as part of the European ENERNETMOB project, in which the Capenergies cluster is a partner. It will be installed in October by Engie Solutions at the MIN des Arnavaux car park.

From this logistics hotspot on the outskirts of Marseille, deliveries to the city centre will be pooled and carried out by electric vans belonging to a specialist in goods transport. With a power output of 8.4 kWp, the photovoltaic installation combined with a 10 kWh Li-ion battery should cover at least 50% of the annual energy requirements of 2 electric urban logistics vehicles.[1] and lighting for the national interest market, which is at its busiest at night, very early in the morning.

This trial is a first step towards making urban logistics fleets greener, at a time when the Aix-Marseille-Provence metropolitan area is particularly committed to air quality, with the introduction by 2021 of a "low-emission mobility zone" (ZFEm) in the extended city centre of Marseille.

A project initiated by Capenergies, working to break down the barriers between the transport and energy sectors

The project is one of 13 experiments in the European EnerNetMob programme, devoted to electric mobility coupled with renewable energy sources, in which the Capenergies cluster is a partner. It aims to exploit new data on optimising charging according to the availability of solar energy and vehicle use.

Between now and 2022, Capenergies will coordinate the overall evaluation of European experiments on complementary themes such as land-sea intermodality and shared mobility. The results will help to identify the most effective electromobility technologies and strategies in terms of their interoperability and replicability in other parts of Europe.

Regional players in the field of Sustainable Mobility, led by Capenergies, will be able to benefit from this feedback as part of a special Club designed to promote synergies between the transport and energy ecosystems and encourage the emergence of new projects.

An experiment in line with the MIN Marseille Méditerranée's sustainable development approach

The Marseille Méditerranée Market, which currently accounts for more than 30% of Marseille's food consumption, is carrying out an ambitious sustainable development project with the support of the Aix-Marseille Metropolitan Authority, with the aim of becoming a veritable laboratory for urban logistics.

"The issues of urban logistics, local consumption, sustainable development, short distribution channels, organic farming and photovoltaic potential are tomorrow's priorities for this market, which welcomes more than 300 producers and 3,000 buyers every year. We want to offer our customers new ways of getting around, with transport solutions that are innovative, easy to use and clean. , Marc DUFOUR - Managing Director of Marché Marseille Méditérranée (MIN des Arnavaux).

Between now and the end of October, 12 recharging ports will be set up to complete the experiment being conducted with Capenergies and to contribute to an ADEME study on short food circuits. Supported by a consortium made up of SOMIMAR, CRET LOG (AMU/Polytech Marseille), the Aix Marseille Provence metropolitan authority, the Jonction consultancy and AMAP les paniers Marseillais, the aim here is to experiment in real conditions with shorter, shared logistics circuits.

KEY FIGURES

Logistics in the Aix-Marseille area means :

  • 93% of the department's goods flows (linked to port and agricultural activity)
  • 50,000 LCVs with crit air 4 and 5 stickers in circulation

Logistics at the Marseille Méditerranée MIN means :

  • 267 local producers spread over an area of 24 hectares
  • A flow of 3,000 buyers every year

ABOUT US

  • THE MARSEILLE MEDITERRANEE MARKET located in Les Arnavaux, is the 1er MIN du Sud and 2nd largest MIN in France, with 24 hectares of market floor space. With annual sales of almost 520 million euros and a food consumption area of almost 2.5 million inhabitants, the Marseille Méditerranée Market covers more than 30% of Marseille's food consumption. To meet this growing demand, the Marché Marseille Méditerranée wants to develop its responsible approach in a number of areas. Urban logistics, local consumption, sustainable development, short circuits, organic farming and photovoltaic potential are the priorities for the future of this market, which welcomes more than 300 producers and 3,000 buyers every year.
  • THE ENERNETMOB PROJECT Funded by the European InterregMED programme, the project partners, representing 12 European countries, are working together to improve urban mobility plans. The project involves the networking of 13 inter-regional pilots of recharging infrastructures for electric vehicles co-powered by renewable energy sources. The ultimate aim of the project is to create, on a transnational scale, a European "Interregional Electromobility Network" for medium/long-range electric vehicle travel, and thus to have an impact on regional and national mobility and transport policies in the MED and Europe.
