HY-WISE

COMBINATION OF INSTRUMENTS FOR NEW HYDROGEN STORAGE CAVITIES

Hydrogen, a fast-growing energy carrier, can be stored in large quantities in salt caverns, given the tight seal provided by salt, which does not react with hydrogen. The freshwater injection columns need to be positioned several times to give the cavities their definitive shape. This process, known as "change of pass", is long and costly.

The Hy-Wise project aims to reduce the time and cost of each pass-change campaign by several weeks by developing a complete alternative solution that does away with the heavy resources usually used, with the added environmental benefit of lower CO emissions. The project aims to give FLODIM a competitive edge in the exploitation of the many underground cavities in France and Europe.
