JUPITER 1000

Power-to-Gas, a hydrogen production, CO2 capture and methanation process

The aim of the POWER TO GAS/JUPITER project is to set up an industrial demonstrator of a process for converting electricity into gas (hydrogen or methane) in order to recover surplus electricity. The process involves :

  • an electrolysis stage (conversion of electrical energy into chemical energy in the form of hydrogen from water molecules,
  • a CO2 capture stage from local industrial facilities,
  • A methanation stage involving a chemical reaction between hydrogen and CO2,
  • A hydrogen or methane injection stage into natural gas networks, for storage and recovery.
