Recovering gas expansion waste energy to produce low-carbon electricity and improve the energy efficiency of GRTgaz system facilities
The project aims to capture the energy lost during gas expansion by installing an expansion turbine in place of the usual valve on gas expansion stations. The turbine, combined with a generator, produces carbon-free electricity. This must be supplemented by a means of reheating the gas, which may be a cogeneration unit and/or a connection to a geothermal district heating network and/or by recovering waste heat, depending on availability.
