On 10 July, the Capenergies cluster organised a webinar entitled "Financing Europe: deciphering the new Innovation Fund" as part of the FLEXGRID programme.
With a budget of €10 billion up to 2030, the Innovation Fund is one of the European Union's major financial instruments for demonstrating innovative low-carbon technologies.
Its aim is to support demonstrators of highly innovative technologies, processes or products that are sufficiently mature and offer significant potential for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

INNOVATION FUND: Eligible sectors
- Innovative low-carbon technologies and processes in energy-intensive industries, including carbon-intensive substitutes
- Carbon capture and utilisation (CCU)
- Construction and operation of carbon capture and storage (CCS) solutions
- Innovative solutions for the production of renewable energy
- Energy storage
The stages of the call :
- Response to the call for projects for large-scale projects > €7.5M CAPEX : evaluation on the basis of the first 3 criteria (GHG emissions avoided, level of innovation, project maturity) with the possibility of development aid from the EIB.
Deadline: 29 October 2020 - Submitting a full application Assessment based on 5 criteria (GHG emissions avoided, level of innovation, project maturity, scale-up, profitability).
Deadline: 23 June 2021 - Return from INEA and award of the grant to 4th Quarter 2021 (Member States consulted on the shortlist of selected projects).
Financing at stake:
The additional costs relating to innovation (CAPEX and OPEX) will be financed up to a maximum of 60%. Innovation Fund grants may be combined with other sources of funding.
