ENERGY FOR CENTURIES TO COME

Developed by the STELLARIA start-up, a spin-off from CEA and SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC, the STELLARIUM project aims to study, develop and manufacture a molten-salt fast neutron nuclear reactor (RNR) to decarbonise industry.

The reactor concept provides 250 MW of thermal power (heat at 570°C) or 110 MW of electrical power (electrical efficiency of around 43%). Autonomy of 20 years without refuelling is achieved using fast neutrons to fission and fertilise the fuel inside the vessel. The reactor operates with natural convection in nominal operation, which simplifies the design and increases the level of nuclear safety. The reactor is highly controllable, making it compatible with a wide range of industrial applications. All the reactor's components are designed to be replaceable, facilitating maintenance and repair operations.
