Specialist in electric car-sharing in Marseille, TOTEM mobi has announced the creation of the "Totem Provence" Société Coopérative d'Intérêt Collectif (SCIC), with the Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropolitan Area and the Banque des Territoires each contributing 400,000 euros to the capital. This is a major investment for the city, which should help to complete the public transport offer and reduce the impact of air pollution, bearing in mind that a car-sharing vehicle can replace up to 8 private vehicles.
TOTEM mobi, which has been accredited by Capenergies since its creation, is working towards a new form of public-private collaboration: " TOTEM mobi has become a car-sharing platform providing technical solutions and an economic model to cooperative subsidiaries created with local authorities and Caisse des Dépôts. This is the starting point for a new model " explains Emmanuelle Champaud, co-founder of TOTEM mobi. The company offers operators its expertise in automated vehicle fleet management, but is no longer directly in charge of the car-sharing service.
TOTEM mobi, acclaimed by users and investors alike, continues to grow
TOTEM mobi has carved out a key place for itself in the city's sustainable mobility offering by offering a free-floating car-sharing solution for electric vehicles (nearly 200 Twizys to date): drivers can park freely and free of charge in designated areas in Marseille city centre.
The service, which is inexpensive for the user thanks to advertising sponsors, stands out for its optimised information system. This offers drivers a simplified experience via a mobile application that enables them to view an available vehicle (and its range), book it and start it up via Bluetooth®. At the end of the journey, users can locate a charging station on the app to plug in the vehicle and earn bonuses on their next rental. Today, almost 15,000 Marseilles residents have subscribed to the platform, 751 of whom are aged between 18 and 40.
" The support we received from Capenergies in 2015 enabled us to obtain the 1st seed financing via the national GreenTech Verte label. " says Emmanuelle Champaud. In 2017, TOTEM mobi, with the support of Capenergies, successfully completed a 1era Major fund-raising with Région Sud Investissement, Banque Populaire and Banque des Territoires (Caisse des Dépôts).
TOTEM mobi is now expanding its customer base to include companies, business parks and condominiums. This new model will be rolled out this spring with the Greater Avignon urban area, and with major private sites such as the CEA in Grenoble. Building on this success, the company is looking to add a new dimension to its development: " Several other towns in France have already received offers to set up the TOTEM mobi service. Abroad, we have already completed a 1era exporting our model to Switzerland, and discussions are underway with the town of Cape Town. "
TOTEM mobi will be offering its services at the next Forum Energy For Smart Mobility organised by Capenergies and GreenUnivers, on 13 and 14 October at the Palais du Pharo. It's a successful comeback for the start-up which, at the 2018 edition of the Forum, was awarded the Jury's Special Prize.
