OPPEN: TRAINING TOMORROW'S TALENT IN THE NUCLEAR INDUSTRY

An ambitious project driven by a collective dynamic

The OPPEN project (Offering professionalisation for nuclear companies) has been launched! Selected as part of France 2030's "Skills and Professions of the Future" Call for Expressions of Interest (AMI CMA), it meets the skills needs of companies in the nuclear industry, both in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region and nationally. The 5-year project, with a total budget of €21m, is managed by the Campus d'Excellence Industrie du Futur - Sud, with the support of the Secrétariat Général pour l'Investissement (SGPI), the Caisse des Dépôts and the Région Sud.

It brings together 21 partners alongside Capenergies, including companies, academic, institutional and training bodies.

In concrete terms, OPPEN expects to recruit 10,000 people a year over the next ten years, including between 3,000 and 3,700 in the South of France, and is taking steps to strengthen its training offering, create a Nuclear Engineering School in Marseille and attract new talent, while promoting diversity of profiles.

Capenergies, which supported the project from the outset with the award of a label in 2023, will be involved in the deliverable. Engaging partners and monitoring needsThe aim is to identify, assess and analyse the expectations of industrial companies, to ensure that the training programmes developed correspond to the realities of the region.

OPPEN: a place dedicated to training and innovation

It is in this context that a new training centre for nuclear engineering professions has opened its doors: the OPPEN centre in Marseille, supported by EDF. The creation of this centre meets a dual objective: to support the development of skills in the nuclear industry and to harmonise the training provided by EDF and its partners, thanks to a shared, outsourced training centre.

The OPPEN centre, located on the premises of ONET Technologies in Marseille, was inaugurated on 18 September by EDF's Park and Environment Engineering Division (DIPDE). This 350 m² centre offers a complete and progressive educational programme, combining classroom lessons, exercises on simulators and immersion in virtual and augmented reality, providing a guided experience at the heart of a nuclear power plant and encouraging the sharing of a common culture of nuclear safety and innovation.

The event brought together all the project's partners, including the PACA academic region, the Université des Métiers du Nucléaire, the IUT de La Ciotat, EDF, Onet Technologies, ALTEN, Assystem, Capgemini, EKIUM, Parlym, Groupe Ponticelli Frères, SIGEDI, Ortec, Socotec and Tractebel, with financial support from the SGPI, the Caisse des Dépôts and the Région Sud.

Guillemet open

It's a motivating, unifying and high-stakes project, which is entering its operational phase and will commit us collectively for years to come: what a great challenge!  underlines Annaïk JUHUETTE-JOUENNE, Managing Director of Capenergies.

With the opening of the OPPEN space, the first step has been taken! The partners are now continuing to build a solid regional ecosystem, which will have to adapt continuously to the needs of industry and support the development of skills in a demanding sector in the years to come.
